Finally, the wait of Cox’s Bazar residents is over. Hear the train whistle at South Asia’s first iconic railway station. A train has arrived for the first time on the newly constructed railway line from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar.
The test train reached Cox’s Bazar without any problem on Sunday (November 5) at 6:25 PM.
Earlier, the train left Chittagong station with eight coaches and one engine at 8:30 am today.
Chief Inspector Engineer Ruhul Quader Azad of Bangladesh Railway’s Inspection Department said in a briefing on Sunday evening, “There is no problem in the railway line built from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar for the time being. Railways are all right. There will be some more checks on the railways on Monday as well. Then I will report to the ministry.’
He said, ‘When a new railway is constructed, the railway has to be inspected, this is part of it. Basically the construction work is inspected and checked for any defects. However, the signaling system of this railway line is not yet complete. Manpower has not been recruited. Only after this work is completed, commercial railways can be operated in Chittagong and Dhaka along with Cox’s Bazar.
The Project Director of Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar Railway Project, Mohammad Subaktgin said, ‘The team of Railway Inspection Office has inspected this new railway line and various stations of Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar and verified whether there are any defects. No fault was found in the railway line. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this railway on November 11. After that very soon the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar railway will be started commercially.
