Work on the iconic oyster-like structure at Cox’s Bazar railway station is almost done to fascinate passengers and visitors alike.
The superb six-storey structure, being built under the Chattogram-Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar-Gumdhum (CDCG) rail line project, is expected to be fully ready for use next month.
According to sources, the Cox’s Bazar rail stop is dressing the part to offer services in October as the main building and passenger amenities are completed.
The oyster-shaped design stands as the biggest attraction along the 100-kilometre-long under-construction rail project.
The fixing of doors, fittings, tiles, sanitary facilities, electricity lines and air-conditioning equipment of the building is also done.
The rest work, including the installation of a fountain, will be completed after the station comes into operation.
A railway residential area has been developed next to the state-of-the-art station.
The station building spans 187,037 square feet, covering 29 acres of land, and it will house a star-rated hotel, a shopping mall, restaurants, a childcare centre and luggage storage facility.
Tourists can leave their luggage in station lockers and spend the day on the beach or sightseeing. An estimated 4,000 people can travel through this station a day.
