Trial of Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway line is not being held today, postponed to November 2

The trial run of Chittagong’s Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway line was scheduled to take place on Sunday (October 15), but it has been postponed to November 2. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this railway line on November 12. Meanwhile, the newly established railway line from Chittagong’s Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar is now ready for train movement.

The trial run of the train will be on this railway on November 2. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this railway line on November 12.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan will visit the Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar railway project in Chittagong tomorrow (October 16) as a preparation for the inauguration by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After visiting the bridge, go to Dohazari railway station by road. After that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the surface of the Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar railway line by trolley as a preparation for the inauguration of the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar section of the newly constructed Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway construction project at the Dohazari Railway Station on November 12. After that visit Cox’s Bazar iconic railway station at 4 pm.

According to railway sources, under the project, a total of 9 stations have been constructed from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar in addition to the construction of a world-class oyster-style railway station in Cox’s Bazar. Apart from this, overpasses have been constructed for the movement of wild elephants and wildlife, the first of its kind in South Asia, as railway lines have been laid in protected forest areas.

Officials related to the project said that the project of 100 km railway line from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar is being implemented at a cost of Tk 18 thousand 34 crore 47 lakh. On April 3, 2011, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of meter gauge railway up to Dohazari-Ramu-Cox’s Bazar. Among them, 88 km from Chittagong’s Dohazari to Ramu and 12 km from Ramu to Cox’s Bazar.

The government took up the single line dual gauge track construction project from Dohazari to Ramu to Cox’s Bazar and from Ramu to Ghumdhum near Myanmar in 2010. In the first phase, a 100.83 km single line dual gauge railway line is being constructed from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar via Ramu.

9 railway stations, four major and 47 minor bridges have been constructed under the project. 149 box culverts and 52 round culverts have been constructed. There are 96 level crossings.

The construction of the dual gauge and single track railway project started in 2018, almost seven years after the inauguration by the Prime Minister. Initially, the project cost was estimated at 1 thousand 852 crores. In 2016, after revising the project proposal, the cost increased to 18 thousand 34 crore 47 lakh taka. Out of this, only 215 crore rupees are being spent on the construction of the spectacular iconic station in Cox’s Bazar. It was financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Bangladesh.
