Chittagong: Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan visited the Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway line. He went to Cox’s Bazar by motor trolley from Dohazari station.
The minister left for Cox’s Bazar by motor trolley from Dohazari station at around 10 am on Monday (October 16). Earlier he inspected the repair work of Kalurghat Bridge.
Later, the Railway Minister presented the latest status of Kalurghat bridge repair work to the journalists. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Cox’s Bazar route train on November 12.
Railway Eastern General Manager Jahangir Hossain said that the minister is inspecting the railway line. The laying of new railway line till Cox’s Bazar has been completed and trains are ready for movement.
The project of 100 km railway line from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar is being implemented at a cost of Tk 18 thousand 34 crore 47 lakh. On April 3, 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone for the meter gauge railway construction up to Dohazari-Ramu-Cox’s Bazar. Among them, 88 km from Chittagong’s Dohazari to Ramu and 12 km from Ramu to Cox’s Bazar.
Initially, the cost of this project was estimated at 1 thousand 852 crores. In 2016, after revising the project proposal, the cost increased to 18 thousand 34 crore 47 lakh taka. It has been financed by Asian Bank and Bangladesh Government.
